Leap Motion Controller 2 named CES Innovation Award Honoree in two categories

Posted; November 16, 2023

Ultraleap today announces that the Leap Motion Controller 2 has been named a CES® 2024 Innovation Awards Honoree in two categories: XR Technologies & Accessories and Computer Peripherals & Accessories.

The Leap Motion Controller 2 is the second generation of the iconic hand tracking camera that allows you to use your own hands to interact naturally with digital content in 3D. The camera captures the movement of a users’ hands and fingers and then uses AI (artificial intelligence) to return the hand positions to Ultraleap’s world leading hand tracking software. The software then accurately detects and identifies 27 distinct hand elements, including bones and joints, creating a digital twin of the user’s hands. All without the need for controllers, gloves or wearables.

Key improvements over the original Leap Motion Controller include higher resolution cameras, an increased field of view, lower power consumption, and it’s lighter and more robust in the smallest form factor yet for optimum placement and convenience. The Leap Motion Controller 2 is compatible across Windows, macOS, Linux and Android XR2 and can interface with various complimentary hardware including XR headsets, PCs, and holographic displays.

Matt Tullis, VP of XR at Ultraleap, said: “We’re proud to have developed a product that the CTA has recognized as highly innovative in design and engineering. The Leap Motion Controller 2 is a state-of-the-art stereo hand tracking camera that builds on the success of the first-gen device while being more flexible than any other product we’ve launched. I can’t wait to see what games and applications will be created as a result.”

This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record-high number of over 3000 submissions. The honorees announcement was made ahead of CES 2024, the world’s most influential technology event, happening Jan. 9-12 in Las Vegas, NV.
